Disk Space Check Version 5.61 (c) 1994 Michael Gallias
This program is postware, i.e., it is free, there may be no charge when
distributing the program. You are welcome to copy it freely and use it
freely, at your own risk, the author not taking any responsibility for it.
However, should you like the program, a small donation, or just a postcard,
would really be appreciated. See DETAILS.DOC and REG.DOC.
The program checks your disk space, free clusters, cluster size, etc. and
displays it for you.
This program has a built in "antivirus" which checks to see that the file
size has not changed. This is automatically deactivated if you compress the
file. If you deactivate the antivirus then no warning message will be
displayed if the file size changes.
To change the Setup Options, use the switch /O. The options you select are
written to the .EXE file so you don't need to use command line switches.
You may use a Executable File Compressor on the program. Note that you then
must decompress the program before you can use the /O option. Note also
that the antivirus automatically detects this and deactivates itself. No
warnings will be displayed but often (not always) a compressed file will not
run if infected.
Once the options are set, the program will use the setup. If you want to
temporarily override the setup, say the setup asks for totals but you don't
want the totals displayed, you could either re-setup or simply use a switch
/NT.
Notice, when using Continuous Display, the Pause option must be off (/NP)
if you want to use it for network watching.
If Pause is on, the program presumes you are checking multiple floppy/stiffy
disks where you may swap disks after each check.
The /K and /NK options where added for people who want to know how many
thousands of bytes they have rather than the usual 1024 bytes per kilobyte.
The /SD option was added (as per request) for people using the program off a
floppy or stiffy disk.
Using the Options Setup:
If an error occurs, try decompressing the file if you have compressed it, or
make sure it is in the current directory.
When answering the questions, you don't have to press [Return]. If you make
a mistake, press [Ctrl][Break] and the options will not be saved to disk.
The default drives are the drives the program checks if no other drive is
specified and you have requested that this happen (another option later).
Totals for multi drive checks are displayed if requested (and more than one
drive is checked). The program adds up all the space found on the drives
and gives a total.
You can request three different display formats, Graph, Neat, Table or
Quick.
You can then request that total space, allocated space and free space be
displayed if you wish. You will not be prompted for this if you request a
table (as a table displays all information) and if you have not requested
any totals.
More advanced information gives you some further information about your
disks if you so desire.
If you wish to Network Watch (scan the network drive continuously to check
drive space), you can request this. Select "Display Continuously" and
"Pause after each drive" if you want to check a few floppy or stiffy disks.
Then select whether you wish the drives specified to be checked (first
option) or the default (current) drive.
Then select whether you want pauses after each drive is displayed.
Request for low speed display if high speed display is causing trouble
(which will probably never happen). This program will automatically put EGA
and VGA cards back into 80x25 mode. If you don't like this (nobody has
complained yet), contact the author for a special version which will not do
this. However it will display slowly and puce will not be available.
This program can now display the text in the current DOS colour, or, if you
have a VGA, it can display in puce. Furthermore, it can change the colour
white to puce until you next reboot.
